Violinist Christian Tan, pianist Mary Anne Espina tandem in PPO's chamber music concert series


Violinist Christian Tan and pianist Mary Anne Espina pair up in the latest edition of the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra’s Chamber Music Concert Series premiering on April 30, 2021, 8:00 PM at the Cultural Center of the Philippines and the PPO's Facebook pages and also at the CCP’s YouTube channel.

This edition will feature a performance of Ludwig van Beethoven’s Violin Sonata No. 8 in G Major, Op. 30 No. 3 by Tan and Espina.

The PPO Chamber Music Concert Series premiered on October 30, 2020 and is the orchestra’s way to bring classical music to audiences through online performances in this time of pandemic when concerts held at the CCP are prohibited.

International lineup jazzes up French Embassy's Les Jeudis culturels


In line with the International Day of Jazz, the latest edition of Les Jeudis culturels/Cultural Thursdays gets jazzed up as the Embassy of France to the Philippines and the Alliance française de Manille, in cooperation with the Philippine International Jazz Festival, present Jeudi Jazz, an online concert streaming on April 29, 2021, 8:00 PM via the Facebook page of the Embassy of France to the Philippines and Micronesia.


Leading the international roster of performers is French jazz pianist, composer, and musical arranger David Starck. Joining him in this concert are Claude Diallo from Switzerland, Francesco Maccianti from Italy, and Adrian Oropeza from Mexico.


International Jazz Day is commemorated every 30th of April to celebrate the values associated with jazz, such as the freedom of expression, innovation, and understanding between peoples. This year, this occasion also highlights the power of jazz to bring people together, especially at this time in which people remain confined to their homes due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

PPO presents Gospel music themed program in Spotlight series


The Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra presents a selection of Gospel music performances for the 6th edition of its PPO Spotlight: Virtual Pocket Performances streaming on April 16, 2021, 8:00 PM through the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ website.

The Gospel music themed program for this edition will feature performances of Don Moen's God will Make a Way to be played by clarinetist Jayson Rivera, Darlene Zschech's Potter’s Hand by violinist Joseph Frederick Regalario, St. Ignatius of Loyola's Anima Christi to be played by flautist Edgardo Silangcruz, and John Newton’s Amazing Grace to be interpreted by an ensemble composed of trumpet players Glober Calambro and Edwin Matias, French horn player Jay-Ar Mesa, trombonist Ricson Poonin, tuba player Jun Dela Peret, and drummer Elizalde Tolentino.

The PPO Spotlight: Virtual Pocket Performances series, which will run until July 2021, is a program of the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra that can be viewed at the PPO Facebook page and the CCP YouTube Channel.

PPO Spotlight presents Holy Week special


So the previous edition of the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra's PPO Spotlight: Virtual Pocket Performances series was actually the Lenten Special while the upcoming one, streaming online this April 2, 2021, 8:00 PM through the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ website, is the one billed as the Holy Week Special.

This episode will feature performances of The Lord Bless You & Keep You by John Rutter to be performed by clarinetist Ariel Sta. Ana.

A string ensemble consisting of violinists Berny Dulce Payte, Ma. Angelica Uson, Ayesa Cruz, Gemma Bicaldo, Joseph Regalario, Aristotle Ramos, and Alfred Sanchez, violists Joy Allan Dela Cruz and Ferdinand Dumlao, cellists Gerry Graham Gonzales and Herrick Ortiz, and double bassists Aris Payte III, and Vincent Dela Cruz perform Ave Maria by Giulio Caccini.

Lacrimosa for 2 Flutes from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Requiem in D minor, K. 626 will be played by flutists Hercules Santiago and Marie Poblete. Lastly, the program wraps up with Requiem by Saegusa Shigeaki to be performed by cellist Gerry Graham Gonzales.
