Silverstre Revueltas Sensemayá
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Clarinet Concerto in A major, K. 622
Angel Peña Igorot Rhapsody
Ottorino Respighi Feste Romane

I own a clarinet and have been trying for years to play it decently. So I hope that watching this concert, featuring the principal clarinetist of the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra, Ariel Sta. Ana will inspire me to practice more and learn beyond the G major scale. The concert happening on October 7, 2011 8:00 PM at the Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo (CCP Main Theater) will have Sta. Ana performing one of the most popular pieces in the instrument’s repertoire which is Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto in A major, K. 622. I’m very familiar with the piece especially with its sublime second movement but I’ve yet to see a live performance of it.

The Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra

Other pieces to be performed by the PPO under the baton of Olivier Ochanine are Sensemayá by Silverstre Revueltas, Igorot Rhapsody by Angel Peña and Feste Romane by Ottorino Respighi. I’ve listened to recordings of the pieces to be played and I do understand why they called this concert Musical Landscapes. There is so much diversity in the pieces in terms of mood and character and the nationality of the composers as well that it will be interesting to see how the audience at the Cultural Center of the Philippines will react to each one of them.
