The Guitar Friends and Yuichi Imai, together with BDO, Makati Shangri-La Manila and Philippine Airlines present Japanese concert guitarist Shin-Ichi Fukuda who will perform in a concert happening on January 26, 2013, 8:00 PM at the Francisco Santiago Hall at the BDO Center. Fukuda will also conduct a masterclass on January 27, 2013 at the Pasay Function Room at the Makati Shangri-La Hotel. The concert and the masterclass are both free of charge and open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis.

According to the press release, Fukuda started his classical guitar lessons at the age of 12 back in his hometown in Osaka, Japan. He then continued his studies at L’Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris in France and also at Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Italy. He is also the winner of the first prize at the 23^rd Paris International Guitar Competition organized by Radio France back in 1981. Fukuda has performed extensively in and outside Japan, in many guitar recitals in the USA, France, Italy, Spain, Argentina, Brazil, Czech Republic, Hungary, Bulgaria, Greece, Israel, Mexico, Finland, China, Uruguay, Colombia, Taiwan, Korea, Cuba, and Singapore. And soon, he will add the Philippines to this list.

Fukuda’s teachers have included maestros Tatsuya Saitoh, Alberto Ponce and Oscar Ghiglia. Now a highly gifted teacher himself, his Japanese pupils who have made a name for themselves in the world of classical guitar include Akiko Saito, Kaori Muraji, Daisuke Suzuki and Yasuji Ohagi.
