Revelries at the second Flutopia Festival

Chilean-American flutist Viviana Guzman returns once again to Manila to take part at the second annual Flutopia Flute Revelries Festival happening on March 27-29, 2014 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino (CCP Little Theater). This festival, an event dedicated to the flute, is presented by the Flutopia Flute Consortium Manila.

Highlights of the 3-day festival include a closing gala concert on March 29, 2014, 7:30 PM. The gala concert showcases the 30 member Flutopia Flute Orchestra in tandem with guest artist, Chilean-American flutist Viviana Guzman. She will be performing solo literature for Flute and Piano, and Flute and Guitar, assisted by pianist Raul M. Sunico and University of Santo Tomas (UST) guitar professor Ruben Reyes. She will also perform with the Flutopia Flute Orchestra as soloist in the Fantasie Pastorale Hongroise of Franz Doppler. Guzman was the featured soloist at the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra's opening concert of their 2013-2014 Concert Season.

The Flutopia Flute Orchestra, making its public debut will first perform at a free admission concert at the CCP Little Theater Lobby on March 27, 2014, Thursday at 4:45 PM. At the closing Gala Concert, the orchestra will perform works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Felix Mendelssohn, Franz Doppler, Gustav Holst, and Rodgers and Hammerstein. Dr. Herminigildo Ranera is the conductor of the Flute Orchestra.

In addition to the performances, flute master classes for aspiring talents led by Viviana Guzman, Yoga and Movement seminars for Musicians prepared and taught by flutist, Kalaya Phongsathorn, visiting guest artist from Thailand, will be held.

Other activities include music film presentations, ongoing exhibitions with a comprehensive display booth by Manila’s own Music Gear Company, on-site instrument repair stations headed by Singapore based Muramatsu flute technician Sean Tan and dazzling flute exhibits mounted by Muramatsu Flutes Japan and Flutes, and Flute shop Sydney Australia. A wide variety of ongoing chamber music performances by local and visiting ensembles are being offered free of charge during the festival.

Flutopia Consortium serves as a gateway for talented Philippine flutists to pursue quality in their craft while striving for world-class excellence. Its mandate is to generate a sustained love of flute literature and to insure its public performance.
