Noel Cabangon’s Acoustic Noel Press Conference

Singer/songwriter Noel Cabangon dishes out his latest album, Acoustic Noel, filled with music specially requested by his fans. This concept album released by Universal Records, is composed of 12 tracks which is a mix of classic OPM hits from various decades and a re-recording of a couple of old tracks from Noel’s previous albums.

During a press conference held at Universal Records, Noel mentioned that it was a conscious decision to have all the songs in Filipino since it’s his way of promoting the Filipino language which he finds beautiful.

The album’s opening track and carrier single is Nandito Ako, an Ogie Alcasid original from the 1990’s. Other tracks in the album coming from this decade are Himala by Rivermaya, Harana by Parokya ni Edgar, Bilanggo by Rizal Underground, and Huwag Mo Nang Itanong by the Eraserheads. Noel also recorded songs coming from the new millennium like Pagdating ng Panahon by Aiza Seguerra and Makita Kang Muli by Sugarfree). And he goes further back with songs like Araw Gabi by Basil Valdez and Itanong Mo sa mga Bata by Asin. When asked which song from the album he wished he could’ve written, Noel answered without any hesitation Tuyo Na’ng Damdamin, originally recorded by APO.

Also included in this Acoustic Noel are Nag-Iisa, Wala Ka Na and Awit ng Bahaghari, a couple of his previously recorded songs from his out of print albums. Noel dedicates Awit ng Bahaghari to the victims of the super typhoon Yolanda, the earthquake in Bohol, the political situation in Zamboanga and wherever there is tragedy and conflict. The rainbow (bahaghari) signifies that there is hope after the storm.

In recording these tracks, Noel along with arranger Bob Aves, tried to make the songs different from the original recordings but still managing to retain the folk flavor and sound that Noel Cabangon has been famous for. The new recordings of his old material were also done with new arrangements that would make it fit with the rest of the album.

As expected, Noel’s fans responded very positively towards the album, helping it zoom up the charts upon its release.
