During the opening of the Cine Europa 14, Mr. Shuji Takatori, the director of the Japan Foundation, Manila told me that they’ll be bringing a trio of Japanese musicians playing traditional instruments but with a modern twist. I was already intrigued by what he meant by that and it seemed that I didn’t have to wait that long since the Japanese trio he mentioned, Trinity will be having a musical show called Sound Fusion on November 16, 2011 7:30 PM at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium at the RCBC Plaza in Makati.

Trinity, composed of Kei Wada, Miki Maruta and Chikudo Takahashi, are expected to perform pieces ranging from Tsugaru folk songs, Asian and European music to the Beatles’ classics. And with traditional instruments like the koto and the tsugaru shamisen along with a percussionist, these songs will have a unique arrangement and resulting sound.

Sound Fusion will also feature Japanese singer, Taiko Matsumoto and Filipino group, Bandang Malaya.  A workshop for students will also be held on November 17, 2011 10:30 AM at the School of Music of the Philippine Women’s University in Taft, Manila.
