UN AvenueManila

Featuring:
Dorian Leljak, piano

Programme:
Frédéric Chopin
Prelude in C sharp minor, Op. 45
Mazurka No. 3 in C sharp minor, Op. 63
Mazurka No. 4 in B minor, Op. 33
Nocturne No. 1 in B major, Op. 62
Nocturne No. 2 in E major, Op. 62
Barcarolle in F sharp major, Op. 60
Sergei Rachmaninoff Sonata No. 2 in B flat minor, Op. 36 (Second Version)

It’s been a couple of months since the last solo piano concert that I’ve seen. But I don’t have to wait that much longer since the Piano Teachers Guild of the Philippines (PTGP) and the UST Conservatory of Music will present distinguished Serbian pianist Dorian Leljak in a solo concert on November 14, 2011 7:30 PM at the Philam Life Auditorium.

Dorian Leljak has a very impressive (and very intimidating) résumé as a soloist, chamber musician, teacher and jurist in prestigious international competitions. He has won several of them like the Rachmaninoff Competition in Belgrade, Novi Sad Piano Competition, and the University of Novi Sad Merit Award, Yale University Mary Clapp Howell, Irving Gilmore and Parisot Prizes as well.

He will be having a masterclass as well and being a Professor of Piano at the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad, Serbia and at the Royal College of Music in London. This means that the participants can learn a lot granted that they do not feel the pressure since Leljak is also the President of the World Piano Teachers Association as well.

For his solo concert, he will perform a predominantly Chopin programme with a Rachmaninoff sonata thrown in as well. Personally, I am quite surprised that there’s no Liszt considering that he just celebrated his 200th anniversary of his birth. But then again, I’d rather hear Chopin than Liszt.
