French pianist Marie Vermeulin launches FrancoPhil 2012 with Valentine concert


BREAKING NEWS: Due to weather conditions, the concert of French pianist Marie Vermeulin is rescheduled for Tuesday, February 14, 2013 9:00 PM. The concert is transferred to the Mandarin Oriental Lounge.

In celebration of Valentine’s Day and of the 150th anniversary of French Composer Claude Debussy, the Alliance Française de Manille, the Embassy of France to the Philippines and Rustan’s, in cooperation with the National Park Development Committee and the National Commission for the Culture and the Arts, are proud to present Marie Vermeulin: Piano Recital featuring Claude Debussy and Olivier Messiaen, a concert introducing the internationally renowned French pianist Marie Vermeulin to Manila.

Born in 1983, Marie Vermeulin trained under the pianist Jacqueline Dussol in Paris for six years. In 1999, she was admitted to Marie-Paule Siruguet’s class at the Conservatoire National de Région in Boulogne-Billancourt. By 2001, she obtained her music degree with a first prize for piano by the unanimous vote of the jury. Marie Veurmeulin is today one of the best young French solo pianists and performs regularly in France and abroad (Italy, Spain, Lithuania, Germany, Asia). Marie Vermeulin is extremely talented. In spite of her young age, her genuine pianistic artistry reveals originality and a very attractive and creative personality.

Marie Vermeulin’s performances in concert will equally captivate international audiences and her musical peers all over the world. She is endowed with all the talent required to become one of the most interesting and sought-after French pianists today. She will be touring in Southeast Asia in February to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Debussy.

Marie Vermeulin: Piano recital featuring Debussy and Messiaen, is a FrancoPhil event organized by the Alliance Française de Manille, the Embassy of France to the Philippines and Rustan’s, with the support of the National Park Development Committee, the National Commission for the Culture and the Arts, BPI, Pernod Ricard, Qatar Airways, Ros Music Center and Institut Français.
