It’s not everyday that one of the Philippines’ leading actors, Christopher de Leon, gets involved in producing a musical. Under his new production company Green Wings Entertainment Network, Inc., he presents Lorenzo, a brand new musical about the first ever Filipino saint this September 5-1, 2013 at the SDA Theater of De La Salle-College of St. Benilde.

Christopher de Leon, Nonon Padilla and Ryan Cayabyab

Lorenzo boasts of a creative team made up of industry heavyweights. Directing the musical is theater veteran Nonon Padilla, while the music was composed by Mr. C himself, Ryan Cayabyab. The libretto was penned by award-winning writers Juan Ekis, Paul Dumol and Joem Antonio.

The cast is led by Lorenz Martinez and OJ Mariano portraying the roles of Saint Lorenzo Ruiz and Laurence, an OFW in Middle East, respectively. The production hints that this will be a musical within a play with Laurence dictating the libretto of a musical he has written about Lorenzo Ruiz while locked up and waiting for his imminent execution.
