One of the more impressive and unique music acts to gain fame via YouTube, The Piano Guys are now in Manila for a series of mall appearances and CD signings that will be capped with a major concert this September 7, 2013, 8:00 PM at the SM Mall of Asia Centerstage.

The Piano Guys
John Schmidt, Steven Sharp Nelson, Paul Anderson and Al van der Beek

Fresh from their stint in Singapore, The Piano Guys comprised of producer/videographer Paul Anderson, pianist John Schmidt, cellist Steven Sharp Nelson and music producer/songwriter Al Van der beek, showed what a fun bunch of guys they are when they met the members of the media when they had a press conference at the SM Aura Atrium before having their mini-performance/CD signing at the same venue.

Originally from Utah, the four told the press that they are all dads so they strive to make their music family oriented and suitable for everyone from 3 year old kids up to 90+ year old grandmothers. They also felt that they came at the right time and hit the sweet spot when YouTube artists are starting to get noticed. They feel that having that online exposure today via uploaded videos is similar to what it was like with radio back in the day.

The Piano Guys were asked what their favorite tracks/videos were and here are their responses:

Al chose Code Name Vivaldi since it was a chance for them to mash up the Bourne Identity film score with that of Antonio Vivaldi’s Concerto for 2 Cellos in G minor, RV 531 or Double Cello Concerto. It’s always fun for them to mash up classical music with pop music and movie themes.

For Paul, it is Oh Come, Emmanuel played with just the piano and cello. He claims that it is the only instrumental track that has brought him to tears.

Steven picks Me and My Cello as his favorite because it was a chance for him to basically goof off with his cello while shooting the video for it.

One Direction’s What Makes You Beautiful is John’s choice because they’re all in it and that it was a blast to be playing together with just one piano.

It will be very interesting to see how they would bring to the stage the same vibe and fun atmosphere shown in their videos listed above. But they hint that to see them live is going to be different. They said that their live performances showcase the same variety that they feature in their videos. And to see what they mean, one just needs to head over to the SM Mall of Asia Centerstage this September 7, 2013 at 8:00 PM to catch them live in concert.  The Piano Guys Live is presented by Random Minds Production.

The group’s albums The Piano Guys and The Piano Guys 2, released by Ivory Music and Video are now available locally in record stores nationwide. The albums are also available in digital format over at iTunes Philippines.
