Silent Sanctuary's Monodramatic Album Launch

Silent Sanctuary

As the event fell on a holiday, work was no longer an obstacle for the Silent Sanctuary fans who packed the TriNoma Activity Center to catch Sarkie Sarangay (vocals/guitars), Chino David (violin), Anjo Inacay (cello), Jason Rondero (bass) and Allen Calixto (drums) perform live in line with the release of the band's latest album Monodramatic under their new label Ivory Music and Video.

Silent Sanctuary performed with the massive audience singing along to practically every song, even the new ones that haven’t been released as singles which showed how dedicated the band's fanbase is. There’s something about Sarkie’s uncomplicated voice, coupled with the texture of the violin and cello, and the band’s catchy melodies that make their songs very easy to listen to and extremely tempting to sing along with. I think that this made Bumalik Ka Na Sa ‘Kin, the album’s lead single, such a hit over at radio. One needs not to be a die hard Silent Sanctuary fan to sing along to the chorus of this song. And this I did when I heard the song for the first time. The song’s music video had the band members goofing around, acting out scenes inspired by local romantic comedy films and doing the moves as if they’re a 1990’s boyband.

Ron Henley joins Silent Sanctuary

During the album launch, Ashley Gosiengfiao of Midnight Meetings joined the band in performing Meron Nang Iba which is a track in the new album. And then it was a blast from the past when rapper Ron Henley went on stage to join in Kundiman taken from the band’s earlier album Fuschiang Pag-ibig.

Sarkie Sarangay

Listening to the Monodramatic, Masanay Ka Muna made me wonder how much Kakoy Legaspi (who played the mandolin in this track) was influenced by Act of Congress whom he had the pleasure of jamming with a few months ago. His mandolin gave this track a unique flavor. The bluegrass influence plus the very interesting bridge ultimately made this one of the standout tracks in the album for me. Another highlight in the album is the orchestral version of Sa ‘Yo, one of the two bonus tracks, made more haunting by the snare drum and by the additional strings.

Silent Sanctuary’s Monodramatic, released by Ivory Music and Video, is now available in record stores nationwide. Bumalik Ka Na Sa’ Kin and the rest of the album tracks are also available in digital format over at iTunes Philippines.
