Clarion Chamber Ensemble serves “All Main Courses” in concert


In “Carrying the Banner for Chamber Music in the Philippines”, the Clarion Chamber Ensemble serves All Main Courses for their 15th concert season this March 16, 2017, 8:00 PM at the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino (CCP Little Theater).

The evening will feature hearty servings of chamber music that includes Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Quintet in E flat major for Piano and Winds, K.452, Bohuslav Martinů’s Trio in F major for Flute, Cello and Piano, H.300, and Johannes Brahms’ Piano Quartet in G minor, Op. 25.

This music will be dished out by Clarion Chamber Ensemble members namely cellist clarinetist Ariel Sta. Ana, Gerry Graham Ariza Gonzales, flutist David Jerome Johnson, pianist Hyun Joo “Julia” Lee, French horn player Jay-Ar Mesa, oboist Reynato Resurreccion, and bassoonist Noel Singcuenco. Guest artists joining them onstage are violinist Sara Maria Ariza Gonzales, pianist Seung Yun “Cecilia” Lee, and violist Maria Corazon Reyes.

All Main Courses is a joint production of Clarion Chamber Ensemble and the Cultural Center of the Philippines, and is co-presented by 98.7 DZFE The Masters Touch. Steinway Boutique,Manila is the official piano sponsor.

Taiwanese conductor Apo Hsu leads the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra this March 14, 2014 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo (CCP Main Theater) along with guest artist, oboist Wan-Chen HsiehThey will perform Carolyn Yarnell’s Yosemite and the Range of Light, Bohuslav Martinů’s Concerto for Oboe and Small Orchestra, H. 353 with Hsieh as the soloist and Sergei Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 5 in B flat major Op. 100.

Oboist Wan-Chen Hsieh

Apo Hsu is the Orchestra Director of the National Taiwan Normal University, a post she has held since 2003.  She is also a guest faculty member at The Conductor's Institute at Bard College in New York. Other past appointments include Music Director and Conductor of the Springfield Symphony in Missouri, Artistic Director of The Women’s Philharmonic in San Francisco and as Music Director and Conductor of the Oregon Mozart Players in Eugene, Oregon after completing a three-year tenure as Affiliate Artist/NEA Assistant Conductor of the Oregon Symphony. She has served on the faculty for the American Symphony Orchestra League Conducting Workshops, National Youth Orchestra Festival 2000, the Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute 2002 and 2004, the 2007 All State Orchestra in New Mexico and the 2009 All State Orchestra in Colorado. She has been a Music Review Panelist for the National Endowment for the Arts, and Meet The Composers in New York City and serves as an Evaluation Committee member at the CKS Center in Taipei.

Guest appearances have taken Hsu all over the US as well as Russia, Asia, South America and Australia. More recent engagements include her residency at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music in January 2012, an appearance as guest conductor of the Barra Mansa Symphony Orchestra (OSBM) in Brazil in July 2012 and the 2013 OSBM Classical Brazil’s project, Brazil Classical 2013 season Orchestral Tour Brazil and Simone Leitao.

Oboist Wan-Chen Hsieh has appeared as soloist throughout Europe and Asia, including performances with the MDR Chamber Orchestra Leipzig, Schöneberg Chamber Orchestra, Adlershof Chamber Orchestra Berlin, National Symphony Orchestra (NSO) Taiwan, Taipei Symphony Orchestra, Kaohsiung City Symphony Orchestra, Taipei Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, Taipei National University of Arts Orchestra, and C.Y.C. Wind Orchestra. She performs with the Taiwan Connection Music Festival Chamber Orchestra, established by violinist Nai-Yuan Hu from New York, and gives concerts with other TC musicians through Taiwan annually since 2009. Her first classical recording “Bel Canto” won the “Best Classic CD” in the 19th Golden Melody Awards in Taiwan, and first crossover recording “Capriccio Pine Breeze” was published by Wind Music in fall 2007. Wan-Chen lives in Taiwan and works not only as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Taipei National University of Arts, but also as the Music Director in the CHEW’s Culture Foundation. She organizes performances for the contemporary music group SpringAutumnMusic, and the series of family concerts “C.I.M. Concerts in Museum”.
