After
13 years together as a band, Sponge Cola, composed of members Yael Yuzon, Gosh Dilay, Armo Armovit
and Tedmark Cruz, will mount their first ever major solo concert, entitled Maximum Capacity, this July 19, 2013 , 8:00 PM at the Music Museum .
The
band recently held a press conference at the Universal Records office and I
learned that the songs to be performed in this concert will be limited only to
material that the band has recorded. It will be a mix of old and new hits along
with unreleased tracks that have become fan favorites. Yael even hinted that
the first song that they will perform might be 22 since he thinks that it’s
cool to start the concert with what was probably the track that long time Sponge
Cola fans first heard when they listened to the band’s debut album.
Yael
won’t be Yael if he didn’t have his fun. During the press conference, he
narrated on how he wanted to have, of all things, a goat with him during the
concert. He started imagining both he and the animal walking on treadmills and even
sang a snippet of Makapiling Ka while bleating like a goat. He claimed that the
concert’s director, Paolo Valenciano, considered that idea for a moment before
sanity prevailed. Eventually, the goat was scrapped from the show but Paolo’s
father, Gary V. and Zia Quizon will definitely be among the guest artists in
the concert.
When
asked why Karylle isn’t officially part of the show, Yael answered that she
will be watching for sure and he might end up giving the microphone to her at
one point. Tedmark also didn’t give a definite answer when asked if the band’s former
drummer, Chris Cantada will be making an appearance at the concert as well.
I
still remember watching the band live over at Radio Republic when they were the guests
on the station’s Live at 2299
show. During that night I couldn’t contain my laughter with Yael’s antics in
between songs. Live at 2299 was just
an hour long program so I guess that the music and hilarity will be at maximum
capacity at their major concert. It all happens this July 19, 2013 ,
8:00 PM at the Music
Museum .
