The Met Opera’s Aida launches opera screening series at the CCP

The Cultural Center of the Philippines in cooperation with the Opera Guild Foundation of the Philippines present a screening of Aida by the Metropolitan Opera through digital technology at the Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino (CCP Little Theater) on March 19, 2013 at 3:00 and 8:00 PM. This screening of Giuseppe Verdi’s Aida, is just the first of several high definition and Dolby Surround screenings of the Metropolitan Opera’s latest productions.

The cast of the upcoming screening of Aida includes Liudmyla Monastyrska in the title role of the enslaved Ethiopian princess. Roberto Alagna plays the heroic Radamès while Olga Borodina plays the Egyptian princess Amneris who both figure in the love triangle along with Aida. Fabio Luisi conducts while Alexei Ratmansky does the choreography.

The other Met Opera in HD screenings that are scheduled at the CCP include Giuseppe Verdi’s Rigoletto (April 16, 2013), Gaetano Donizetti’s L’Elisir d’Amore (May 28, 2013) and Maria Stuarda (July 9, 2013), and Thomas Adès’ The Tempest (August 20, 2013). All screenings will be held at the CCP Little Theater at 3:00 and 8:00 PM.


These screenings are a good chance for those who enjoyed last year’s opera productions at the CCP and are yearning for more. Watching these opera screenings is also a good alternative for those who want a taste of something different compared to the mainstream movies shown in cinemas nowadays.
