UP Asian Center in cooperation with the Embassy of Japan in the Philippines present
Rocking Tradition: A Shamisen Concert with Keisho Ohno on February 12, 2019, 7:00
PM at the GT-Toyota Auditorium, UP Asian Center, Quezon City.
This free concert sees Keisho
Ohno, a master of tsugaru shamisen, perform Japanese traditional
music infused with contemporary beats.

Keisho Ohno’s music combines the
shamisen with rock tunes and is exemplified by his motto: “Keeping traditional music
as well as destroying it.” He has performed at the FIFA World Cup in Africa in
2010, and at the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Germany in 2011 and has five albums under
his belt.
The shamisen is a 3-stringed
traditional Japanese instrument, played by plucking the strings with a bachi
which is a straight wooden stick. The tsugaru shamisen is the largest of the three
types of shamisen and is characterized by its broad neck.
This concert is for free with
seats on a first come, first served basis. Walk-ins are welcome, but attendees
