Metropolitan Opera screenings at the CCP wrap up season with The Tempest

The inaugural season of the high definition screenings of Metropolitan Opera productions at the Cultural Center of the Philippines comes to a close with Thomas AdèsThe Tempest this September 10, 2013, 2:00 and 7:00 PM at the CCP’s Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino (CCP Little Theater).While the previous screenings of Aida, RigolettoL’Elisir D’Amore and Maria Stuarda showed operas that premiered more than a century ago, The Tempest, based on William Shakespeare’s play of the same name, is a contemporary work which premiered in 2004.

With libretto by Meredith Oakes and music by Thomas Adès, The Tempest, is an opera in three acts that tells the story of Prospero, the former duke of Milan, who has been marooned and living in exile on a deserted island with his daughter, Miranda. Prospero uses sorcery and magic to control the spirit Ariel and the creature Caliban in order to exact revenge to those responsible for his exile. Directed by Robert Lepage, this new production stars Simon Keenlyside as Prospero, Isabel Leonard as Miranda, Audrey Luna as Ariel, Alan Oke as Caliban, and Alek Shrader as Ferdinand.


Just like the previous showings, the Metropolitan Opera in HD screenings are delivered, using the high definition format and in Dolby Surround sound. And shown during the opera’s intermission are special features such as behind-the-scenes look, interviews with the cast, crew and creative team and sneak peeks at other productions for the rest of the season.
