The Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra goes Mostly Filipino when PPO Associate Conductor Herminigildo Ranera wields the baton on October 11, 2013, 8:00 PM at the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo (CCP Main Theater) for the latest performance of the orchestra’s Classic Blend 2013-2014 Concert Season.

Filipino composers will be at the forefront as the orchestra performs Angel Peña’s Philippine Festival Overture, Alfredo Buenaventura’s Manik Buangsi and Tuan Putli Symphonic Poem, Lucio San Pedro’s Ang Buwan sa Kabundukan and Felipe Padilla de Leon’s Manila Sketches. Also included in the lineup are Darius Milhaud’s La création du monde, Op. 81a and Antonín Dvořák Slavonic Dances, Op. 46.

According to the press release, PPO Associate Conductor Herminigildo Ranera is hailed for his authoritative, articulate and soulful conducting. He possesses a rare musical combination as a conductor, composer, arranger, performer and educator. He obtained his Bachelor of Music Degree, majoring in the fields of Trombone and Theory, from the University of Santo Tomas, Master of Music Degree in Conducting from the University of Northern Colorado (with the Dean’s Citation for Graduate Excellence and National Graduate Award) and Doctor of Philosophy major in Educational Management from Cagayan State University. Regular PPO concertgoers will recognize Herminigildo Ranera for his pre-concert lectures at the lobby an hour before the performance.
