Six Part Invention reinvents itself as the band takes on light rock from the 1990’s
with their latest album entitled Stripped
and Covered, their first offering under their new label Universal Records. Composed
of real life couple Rey Cantong (vocals, guitar, keyboards, synths and
programming) and Kaye Cantong (vocals) along with Tag Cantong (drums) and Andy
dela Cruz (bass), the band also sets their sights overseas as this album will
also be released in other South East Asian territories namely Singapore ,
Malaysia , Thailand
and Indonesia .
Having
two albums (Six Part Invention and Songs of D-Votion) already at their
belt, Six Part Invention goes for a concept album for their third release offering
covers of light rock tracks from the 1990’s with a stripped down arrangement,
hence the album title Stripped and
Covered. The lead single from this album is the Def Leppard original Two Steps Behind which is now recorded
as a duet by Rey and Kaye. Other tracks from the album include Bad
English’s When I See You Smile,
White Lion’s You’re All I Need, Europe ’s Carrie, Cheap Trick’s The Flame among many others.
With
this latest release, Six Part Invention goes to a different direction and does covers for the first time. Their earlier
releases featured original compositions including the hit Falling in Love which was used as the love theme in the television
series Agua Bendita.
Six
Part Invention got its name from the musical term called invention, which is a
short piece featuring a two or three part counterpoint. While the band has only
four members, Rey said that the electric component that the band incorporates in
their music can be considered as two people already. The electric gadgets that
Rey uses in gigs make Six Part Invention’s live performances stand out. So it’s
understandable that they sometimes worry a bit when a venue does not have a
stable power supply. Thankfully, they haven’t experienced a power interruption
so severe that it totally disrupted their set.
